While creating masks, this 3-day class will cover basic carving techniques, the carving properties of wood and the tools of the trade, including hand and power tools. We will also cover sharpening of hand tools.  While power tools will be covered and demonstrated, the focus of the class will be on hand carving. Provided with a piece of basswood, students will carve masks of their own design and may incorporate other materials like wire, beads, feathers, found objects, etc. Students will be encouraged to base their masks on their own designs.
