Abstract art the relationship of form, color, and composition without recognizable images, allowing viewers more space for personal interpretation. Most artists will agree that, to create great abstract art, one must have a heightened awareness of the elements/principles of composition and design throughout the painting process. Abstract art encourages an expressive freedom that we do not always allow ourselves when painting representational imagery. You will better understand how the elements and principles of design work together to build stronger images without leaning on the crutch of representational expectations. A variety of techniques will be demonstrated and applied to this theory.
