Instructor: Mursal Nazary

In this course you'll explore oil painting based on an observational approach. The class will begin with the fundamentals by looking at works of art from the history of observational painting. During class you'll focus on still life painting with oils, employing a range of tools and exploring how they relate to your subjects. While there will painting during class, the instructor will also talk about ways to paint at home in your own surroundings. 

Mursal Nazary was born in Kabul, Afghanistan in 1990. In 1993 she and her family fled from Afghanistan for Russia as refugees due to the Civil War. After a year in Russia, she and her family left for Germany and remained as landed immigrants. In 1998, Mursal and her family immigrated to Toronto, Canada.

Mursal earned her BFA in Drawing and Painting at OCAD University in Toronto in 2012. In her third year, she was awarded a scholarship to attend the Florence Program. She completed her MFA in Painting at Boston University in 2019. 

Her work explores relationships of light, space, and affect of subjects, which are often objects and interiors, during a personal encounter Mursal has presented her work in places including Belgium, France, Italy and the United States. She lives and works in New Hampshire, U.S.
