In this weekend workshop you'll examine the morphology of bird wings and how the underlying forms influence their function, as well as the shapes of individual feathers that compose the different wing formations. You'll leave with a better understanding of layering, tucking and folding of forms and techniques to achieve these effects in stone. This class meets in-person in AVA's Sculptural Studies Building.

Sean Hunter Williams is a second-generation stone carver based in Barre, Vermont. He graduated with a BFA from the University of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. After graduating he spent 4 years living in Berlin, Germany before moving back to Vermont to apprentice with his dad, Jerry Williams, at Barre Sculpture Studios, where he learned the art of stone carving. After a four-year apprenticeship, Sean expanded his work into public commissions, and doing private commission as a freelance stone carver operating out of BSS. Sean will be the Sculptor in Residence at the Saint Gaudens National Historic Park for the 2022 season.
