Wood Sculpture - Design, Shape, Texture, and Build (W22)

Instructor: Jay Singh

Learn some of the fundamentals of fine woodworking and transfer these skills to the constructions of wood sculpture. Design, shape, texture, carve and join. Build a take-away piece and learn about color as it relates to sculpture. Tool use will include hand machine tools, including chisels, sanders, joiner, bandsaw, Dremel, and pneumatic grinders.

Jay Singh is a skilled woodworker and sculptor. He is known for his use of texture and color, and it is often difficult to tell what material was used in any given piece. His work has been strongly influenced by his interest in spirituality and African aesthetics, and has been exhibited widely and featured in private collections. He has been an instructor in the Fine Woodworking department at Santa Fe Community College.
