CANCELED Wood Sculpture: Pulled From the Pages (W23)

Instructor: Troy Woods

Create a sculpture in wood that's inspired by your favorite read. Books, poems, and songs are full of descriptions and images that can inspire ideas for three-dimensional sculpture. Once those concepts are extracted from the narrative, they'll become the inspiration for wooden sculptural creations.  Bring your narrative inspiration to class to help discuss and sketch out a concept, while bouncing ideas off the instructor and fellow students. As student's ideas progress, time will be made for regular peer discussion of everyone's concepts to ensure positive and helpful feedback. $85 materials fee applied at check-out.

Raised in Lebanon, NH, Troy Woods is a third-generation wood carver whose smooth wood and metal sculptures defy the nature of their medium. The lustrous hardwoods that he uses seem to melt and flow in space, sublimely transforming his materials into other substances entirely. Through masterful craftsmanship, Woods creates an elegant sense of calm, echoing nature while confounding our expectations of nature. Woods earned his B.F.A. from the University of Houston, Summa Cum Laude, has received many awards for his work, completed numerous corporate commissions, and has work in private collections.
