This class explores Shell Forming, the process of rapidly moving non-ferrous sheet metal (metal without iron) into the third dimension by curving the pieces in the same (synclastic) and opposite (anticlastic) directions, creating beautiful shell-like forms. Please bring a sketchbook with you and wear natural fabrics long pants and closed supportive shoes. Ages 18 and over. $75 Materials Fee applied at check-out.
Roff Harroff has been studying metal forging and forming since her pre-teens. This led to teaching metal during high school at the Nashua Arts and Science Center. Attending Philadelphia College of Art, Roff studied metal with Richard Rinehardt, Leon Lugassy, Sharon Church, ceramics with Bill Daely, fiber with Warren Selling as well as wood and sculpture tech. After Roff studied shell forming with Helen Betty Longhi, Michael Good and Heikki Seppa. Switching gears for a time Roff studied blacksmithing with Peter Ross and through Waldorf teacher training.
