Instructor: Chalice Mitchell
In this workshop, you will learn the important basics of anatomical knowledge in order to improve Figure Drawing. Topics will include the interaction of form and function in the musculoskeletal system, rhythm and geometry to look out for in the body, and basic structural drawing approaches to depict a 3-dimensional living being on a 2-dimensional sheet of paper. Focus will be on landmarks of the bone structure and major muscle groups that are necessary to create convincing figure drawings.

Chalice (pronounced like the cup) Mitchell is a figurative painter based in Western Massachusetts. She was raised mostly in Maine and Vermont and has lived in British Columbia, New York, Oregon, Colorado, Florida, the West Midlands, UK, as well as Kyushu and Shikoku, Japan.
Chalice has exhibited internationally, including shows in Tokyo, London, New York, Moscow, Athens, Wellington, and Vancouver. She has attended residencies in Japan, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States. She has received grants from the Artist Resource Trust Fund, the Northern Berkshire Cultural Council, Mass Cultural Council, the Martha Boschen Porter Fund, the Carving Studio & Sculpture Center, Assets for Artists at MASS MoCA, and the College Arts Association. Chalice has a BFA from Ringling College of Art & Design and an MFA from the University of South Florida. chalicemitchell.com
